RG Architects PA

Charles Gutekunst, Co-Founder

Charlie embarked on his architectural journey in the vibrant SWFL community back in 1989, marking the inception of his illustrious career. In 1993, he co-founded Green & Gutekunst Architecture, setting the stage for his impactful contributions to the field. Subsequently, his firm merged with a nationwide architectural entity in 1995, propelling Charlie into the role of institutional program leader in the Fort Myers office.

Amidst the challenges of the recession, Charlie exhibited resilience and vision by co-founding RG Architects, P.A in 2012, where he continued to shape the architectural landscape until his retirement in 2022. Throughout his distinguished career, Charlie served as a beacon of guidance, mentoring numerous young professionals in the SWFL architectural community, and leaving an indelible mark on both the design field and the lives of many.

His leadership extended beyond the confines of his firm as he assumed the role of SWFL AIA president in 2002, diligently working to advance the architectural profession. Charlie's exceptional talents garnered multiple design awards, underscoring his profound impact and innovative prowess.

A consummate artist and designer, Charlie possessed a patient, positive, and thoughtful demeanor that endeared him to all. His wealth of knowledge and innate mentoring abilities enriched the professional growth of countless individuals, reflecting his unwavering commitment to nurturing talent. Charlie's calm and articulate nature, coupled with his unique sense of humor, fostered an environment where questions were welcomed, and mentees felt embraced.

Moreover, Charlie held a deep reverence for family values, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to his beloved wife, daughter, and grandchildren. This familial ethos permeated his practice, where he cultivated personal connections and forged lasting friendships, extending his SWFL family beyond professional realms.

In his leisure time, Charlie engaged in golf, deriving pleasure and relaxation amidst his daily routine. He used these moments of opportunity to participate in business discussions and network while enjoying the sport. Furthermore, Charlie demonstrated an unwavering passion for sports, notably the New Orleans Saints and the San Francisco Giants.

Unfortunately, Charles passed away on April 7th, 2023. He left behind an enduring legacy of excellence, mentorship, and treasured memories that will continue to resonate within the architectural community and beyond.

"The architectural process is a discovery that leads to something far more meaningful than what anyone imagined at the start.”
